Welcome to my food blog! If you love food and travelling, then you have come to the right place!

I will start with a little introduction about me.

Oh! How I love food! I'm like the rat in ratatouille. I like cooking as well even though I'm average at best. I'm one of those people whose mood depends on a full satisfied stomach. When I lived in Tokyo, Japan I had no money and some days I ate just rice! I ended up sobbing like a baby and asking my bf, at the time, to buy me a bento box. If I eat my favourite food, you're sure to see me in a happy mood.

So here I am putting my love of food in a blog. I first saw my friend doing a food blog, then I read Julie and Julia. To be honest, I didn't get passed page 100 as the author seemed a bit of a cow.

In this blog, I will talk about different foods from around the world and you will read about my (maybe awful) attempt to make some of them. Enjoy! ^^

Santorini, Itaewon

Yesterday I went to Santorini in Itaewon. I have been here four times I love it that much! It is a Greek restaurant and the food is delicious. I recommend the spinach pies for starters <3. Sadly, they have halved in size since I had last been. Me and my friend felt a bit ripped off by them.

Starters start at 6,000won - 12,000 and Mains are around 19,000won. Normally we share a main but we ordered two to share (luckly we did as the spinach pies were tiny).

On the menu they put best or good by the pictures of what sells the most. I have tried all the the best ones and they all taste great. This time we had mosaka and it was yummy!

The restaurant is down the restaurant alley between/behind 'What the book and KFC'.

OK kitchen Itaewon

Today I went to OK kitchen in Itaewon. We chose the lunch set menu.

The menu was:

Starter:
Sashimi
Watermelon soup
Salad with pate

Main:
Pesto linguine
Mushroon cream pasta

Pudding:
Cheesecake
Brownie
Walnut pie

Tea or Coffee

You get all three starters and you choose one main and one pudding.

Sashimi

Watermelon soup

Salad with pate
The starters were great. I was not keen on the watermelon soup, but that is just because I don't like cold soups. I liked the sashimi best. It was delicious!!!! ^^

Pesto linguine
I really liked the pasta. It was really delicious and really filling. It was also the right size.

Coffee
We had coffee and tea after the main.

Paul's brownies

Walnut pie
Pudding was delicious!! Like eveything else it was just the right size. The cost was 21,000won for this menu and 36,000 for the steak menu. They also have other menus.

OK kitchen

OK kitchen is at Itaewon. Leave exit 1 and keep walking straight. it is down the third alley to your right. It is just before burger king and whatthebook.

Chapchae

My first Korean recipe I decided to try cooking at home is chapchae. Chapchae is a noodle and vegetable dish, which is normally served as a side dish.

You need: (2 servings)

Half a carrot (or a whole small carrot)
Half an onion
One big spring onion or 5-7 small ones.
Half a pepper
Beef
2 gloves of garlic
Oyster mushrooms
Spinach
Glass noodles
Seseame oil, olive oil, soy sauce, seseame seeds, sugar and pepper.

I got this recipe from http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/japchae. I changed the amount of ingredients as I live alone. This was enough for two big meals.

1. Cut all the vegetables into small slices. Cut the meat into slices. This is easier when it is part frozen.

2. Boil the noodles until soft. Put in a bowl with 1 tbs of soy sauce and 1 tbs of seseame sauce.Stir and leave aside.

3. Use the water to boil the spinach for 1 minutes. Rinse under cold water then squeeze the juice out. Place in a large bowl. Add 1/2 tbs of soy sauce and 1/2 tbs of seseame oil.

4. Cook the carrot in the frying pan and place in a large bowl. Repeat cooking the onion, spring onion and pepper separately.

5.Cook the beef and mushrooms. When cooked add the garlic and 1/2tbs of soy sauce and 1/2 tbs sugar.

6. Add 2 tbs of soy sauce, 3 tbs of sugar, 2 tbs of sesame oil, and 1 ts of ground pepper to the vegetables. Mix all ingredients, then sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Chapchae
I tried the recipe on this website http://www.maangchi.com/recipe/japchae. It was really delicious!!

Kimchi making

I decided to learn to make kimchi this year as I think I might actually miss it when I leave. I booked to go on a group trip fo 25,000won. At the beginning the trip was for up north and you got 2kg of kimchi. Sadly for me, the location was changed and you only got half of the orginal amount of kimchi. Though they told us we could try on tradtional Korean clothes (which I had already done at orientation!).

Before

I didn't know anywhere there but most people went by themselves and we all bonded over how bloody cold it was.

I don't have much t write as we didn't actually make any kimchi. As we all found out the paste and the cabbbage takes hours to prepare. All we could do was put the paste on to the cabbage and watch a demostration on to prepare the paste and cabbage at home. It was not worth 25,000won!

This trip was booked with WINK on facebook.

Kimchi!!

Demo!

I will post the recipe on here later on when I try it at home!
